Tata Motors introduces Acti.ev-revealed the latest edition Punch EV model.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), the electric vehicle subsidiary of Tata Motors, recently introduced Punch.ev, the latest addition to its electric vehicle lineup. The unveiling took place as TPEM showcased its innovative ‘acti.ev’ architecture, a foundation for their upcoming electric vehicle models, including the highly anticipated Harrier EV, Curvv EV, and Sierra EV.

The acti.ev architecture, aptly named Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle, is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle landscape. This compact vehicle architecture is built on key pillars of performance, technology, modularity, space, and efficiency. Anand Kulkarni, Chief Products Officer, highlighted the meticulous design, emphasizing class-leading efficiencies, maximized space utilization, and enhanced overall driving experience.

Kulkarni stated, “acti.ev is a global-ready, future-facing pure electric architecture that enables the implementation of software-oriented features, ensuring that our vehicles are not only technologically advanced but also future-proof.”

Starting January 5, interested customers can secure their Punch.ev by placing a booking with a token amount of Rs 21,000. The pricing details for Punch.ev will be unveiled during the official launch later this month. You can book it online from here.

Tata Motors, known for its commitment to electric mobility, recently inaugurated two EV-exclusive showrooms in Gurugram. The company plans to expand its EV showroom presence across Tier-I and Tier-II cities in the next 12-18 months, reflecting the growing demand for electric vehicles.

The acti.ev platform, the technological backbone of Punch.ev, boasts an “optimized battery pack design” contributing to a remarkable 10 percent improvement in energy density. The platform offers multiple range options, spanning from 300 km to an impressive 600 km. Additionally, it supports a 7.2kW to 11kW onboard charger for AC fast charging and DC fast charging up to 150kW. Remarkably, the system can add a 100 km range in just 10 minutes.

The architecture introduces modularity by allowing the selection of the appropriate drivetrain option—AWD, RWD, or FWD—for the specific product, providing versatility in design and performance. The acti.ev platform incorporates advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) level 2 capabilities and integrates the cloud architecture Arcade.ev, featuring an in-car app suite.

Tata Motors has previously declared its commitment to investing approximately $2 billion in battery-powered vehicles by 2027. This investment includes plans to bolster the domestic electric vehicle supply chain by establishing a battery manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company is gearing up to commence electric car production at the Sanand plant, acquired from the US carmaker Ford Motor Company.

Meanwhile, fellow homegrown automaker Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is making significant strides in the electric vehicle sector. M&M recently unveiled five new electric SUVs, all based on its purpose-built Inglo platform, utilizing components from the Volkswagen MEB platform. These e-SUVs fall under Mahindra’s two EV brands – XUV and the all-new electric-only brand called BE, with anticipated pricing ranging from Rs. 15-40 lakh.

As the Indian automotive industry embraces electric mobility, both Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra are at the forefront, driving innovation and sustainable transportation solutions for a greener future.
