Ola, the popular ride-hailing platform, has introduced its e-bike services in Delhi and Hyderabad, following a successful pilot project in Bangalore in September 2023. The company aims to deploy 10,000 electric two-wheelers in the next two months across these cities, making it the largest electric two-wheeler fleet in India.
With a vision to serve 1 billion Indians and promote nationwide electrification, Ola plans to expand its e-bike services throughout the country by the end of the year. The affordability of electric vehicles is a key focus for Ola, and it believes that electrification is crucial to making mobility more affordable.
The pricing for Ola’s e-bike service is designed to be budget-friendly, starting at Rs 25 for a 5-kilometer ride, Rs 50 for 10 kilometers, and Rs 75 for 15 kilometers. Ola sees its e-bike service as a sustainable and convenient solution for city commuting.
Hemant Bakshi, the CEO of Ola Mobility, emphasized that electrification plays a significant role in unlocking affordability in the mobility sector. The success of the e-bike taxi pilot in Bangalore has demonstrated the benefits for consumers (lower prices), drivers (higher earnings), and Ola (new category and revenues).
Ola has achieved over 1.75 million rides to date and has established 200 charging stations in Bangalore to support its growing e-bike fleet. The company is now gearing up for mass deployments in Bangalore, Delhi, and Hyderabad, marking a significant step toward widespread adoption of electric two-wheelers in India.
